Tool 7-Photo Story

OMG!! This took a long time, mostly because finding the pictures and, especially, the music was extremely time-consuming. Most of the pictures are from the FOSS Landforms module website & appear to be freeware, the others noted from NASA also appear to be free. The music was from the FreePlayMusic site. I have made movies using Windows MovieMaker & I will admit that PhotoStory is somewhat more user-friendly.

I'm confindent that our students will enjoy creating PhotoStories of what they learn as well as creative writing using their own drawings. Unlike myself, they will most likely become experts in no time.

Tool 6-Wikis 'r' Us

Wikis sound like an exciting, engaging, collaborative way for students to learn. They can create all kinds of lists--content word walls, vocabulary, parts of speech, rhyming, synonyms, antonyms, etc.--as a class, in teams, or individually. Other ideas can be Reading Response Wikis, class Content, Test Review or End of Unit Wikis, KWL Wikis, and Book Review Wikis. Finally, what a great motivating tool for students' journaling & development of writing and editing skills.

As a team and/or department, wikis would really help to keep us updated & facilitate sharing of resources & planning ideas. I would consider bookmarking or use Google Reader--whichever one is updated automatically--for easy access. I'll have to become a little more familiar with these resources to decide which works best for me. There's still so much to learn!

Tool 5-Tagging & Bookmarking

This lesson got frustrating really fast. I have to say that I did not find the delicious website very friendly at all. The diigo site, on the other hand, I found to be much more user-friendly. And even though it was actually somewhat complicated, I really like all the tools it has. In addition, I found better quality of resources in diigo. I found it easier to use the My Groups tab to locate websites rather than tags. I signed in to both resources & bookmarked 3 websites. My two favorite being a new Math manipulatives site that I had not run across before & one that deals with class blogs. I can see that these two websites will be very helpful resources. I invite anyone to check them out and tell me what you think.
Virtual Manipulatives
Check Out Class Blogs! The Edublogger

I've used bookmarking--i.e. Favorite links-- in the past & have come to depend on them. One of the things I am really excited about is that we can share these online & I would recommend creating a Kindergarten Group in diigo. Students can also use bookmarking to enjoy their favorite sites over and over again.

Tool 4 Exploring Google

Google Reader is a great way to keep track of blogs that you want to follow. It's much easier & effective than visiting each blog individually; & once you've listed them you don't have to remember the urls, nor use a search engine which could give you multiple listings. The RSS feature is one that I will need to research and play with some more.
Google Docs is fairly user friendly & will be great for collaborations. I collaborated on a fun, stress-relieving document with Christy Wyatt where we used pictures & a funny dialogue. The real-time interaction was amazing. I can see students creating group presentations through Google docs; collaborating on a project or assignment; and teaching each other through active participation. Then using Google Reader to follow a favorite website or blog.

Tool 3-Wordle Sample

Wordle: Supply list This was pretty simple to do and fun. Great to present any type of word list & would be fun to create as a poster for a content word wall. Students could also create their own versions of spelling lists or personal word walls.

Tool 3-Bookr Sample

Students will love going through all the pictures & creating their very own books. Personally, I had some trouble scrolling through the pictures & adding them to the pages. You have to be careful where you're clicking to add pictures because it may replace what you added on a previous page. Dragging seems to work a little better.

Tool 2 Reflections on PLN & Comments

Basically, I see a PLN as a community of learners or team of professionals, fueled by the power of the internet. The talent and expertise, & thereby potential for success, of a PLN is as limitless as the internet itself. Effective communication--i.e. comments--are the driving force of any PLN. Meaningful and relevant comments, along with effective strategies such as asking questions & interacting with posts & comments, are important to encouraging & energizing any conversation within the PLN; as well as to keep information flowing. I applaud our PLN for I know firsthand the talent and expertise that is contained within it. Our students will most certainly reap the benefits of a 21st century team of professionals. I have thoroughly enjoyed reviewing some of the blogs within our PLN. I commented on the following blogs:

Kindergarten at SOE

Gann's Gazette

Shopping Teacher

Hugotepic
