Tool #1 of 11--Getting Started

Blogs can be fun and can be used to deliver lessons, engage students, and showcase classroom activities; while at the same time exposing students to the different technologies they can expect to encounter on the internet. In addition, as students become more proficient in using technology to learn academic content to the point of creating technology-based projects, we contribute to a valuable life skill. A skill that can move them beyond the gaming culture into a future marketable skill.

As with all new teaching tools, it takes practice, thought, creativity, and time. And, then again, two or more minds working together--collaboration--helps, too. To teach something well, we must be familiar with and have as much knowledge as possible. Even so, exploring and learning together with our students can be just as fun and exciting. And so, the blogging adventure begins.

  1. Wow..your blog really expresses your play attitude and yet your post was quite serious in covering all the important reasons why this kind of activity would be a great thing for kids to be doing!

I know we are going to learn a lot from what you discover.

P.S. whenever you add a picture or artwork...somewhere on the blog you need to credit the visuals. Look back at the end of the 11 Tools posts and you will see the credits. That's one of the easiest ways.

  2. I agree with you about moving their gaming skills into skills they can use to market themselves for jobs. I think some of our students can possibly use some of this technology already, or at least figure it out faster than I can! Although I have learned a lot from this class, I will possibly be asking my students for some technology advice this year!

  3. With so much technology merging into the fore- fronts of our educational communities/classrooms, teachers need to be savvy about the latest devices/applications that surround our students. Great post!

  5. Thank you to the 11 Tools Manager for your comments regarding citing of resources. It took me a while but I finally found where it was that you were describing to credit visuals. I will remember that for future posts.
